Kitchen Remodel for a Growing Family

Need:

As their three young children got older, the homeowners felt they were outgrowing their kitchen. In addition, they found the layout restrictive and especially did not like having the refrigerator located in a heavily trafficked area. They wanted their kitchen to be a place where friends and family could comfortably gather and enjoy.

Solution:
The island was a crucial feature to the homeowners. We designed it with two levels so it can be used for work and dining. By angling the ends, we were able to gain the length to accommodate the family without it feeling too big. Lastly, we used a creamy “Brie” color on the island while the perimeter cabinets are in a deep, rich cherry in order to define and balance the space.

One of the challenges we encountered during design related to the ceiling of the proposed addition. … Read More »

Updated Transitional Style Kitchen Remodel

Need:

The homeowners felt their kitchen “was not their own” – outdated, inefficient and not their taste.

Solution:
By changing the location of the appliances, eliminating the closet and adding an island, we were able to achieve many of their objectives. The finishes were replaced with cherry wood cabinets, hardwood floors, granite countertops and high end appliances. Accents such as the sage color on the island and the custom designed tile vignette over the stove spice up the space and are reflective of the homeowners’ style. We were able to create a highly functional, upscale kitchen with unique accents without increasing the footprint or breaking the bank.

Transitional Style on a Budget

Need:

The homeowner felt her kitchen was outdated, dark and cramped.

Solution:
While the budget did not allow for us to increase the footprint of the kitchen, opening up the wall between the kitchen and family room created a more open feel and allowed space for a breakfast bar. An updated and more upscale look was achieved with shaker style natural cherry wood cabinets, stainless steel appliances, granite countertops, a slate backsplash, and hardwood floors. With creative design and careful selection of materials, this homeowner was able to realize her dreams for her kitchen while respecting the budget.

Bright Transitional Style Kitchen Remodel

Need:

This 40-year old raised ranch frustrated our clients  with the small kitchen area and limiting layout of the kitchen, living room and dining room.

Solution:

Our plan was to remove the walls between the kitchen, dining room and living room and open up the whole space. The completely remodeled kitchen featuring new cabinetry, stainless steel appliances, and a new center island is now a showcase, and the focus of both the living and dining rooms.

However the renovation did present one fairly significant challenge. We had to transfer the weight of the main support beam without disturbing the finished basement ceiling below. To do this, we removed more of the subfloor in the kitchen and cut in new beam work.

The homeowners were also quite concerned that any “modern” updates would not take away from its inherent architecture and style. To avoid … Read More »

French Provincial Design Kitchen

Need:

The homeowners had several objectives for the remodel of their kitchen. They wanted to change the style from contemporary to French provincial. They also wanted to improve the traffic flow, gain more counter space, improve the lighting and incorporate the kitchen design to other areas of their home.

Solution:

To achieve the look the homeowners wanted, the color and style of the cabinetry play an important role.

All cabinetry was custom-designed and custom-made using natural cherry with beaded inset and raised panel doors.
Wood paneling was used on most of the appliances to bring more warmth into the overall color scheme.
Accents such as the birdcage knobs, chrome polished plumbing fixtures, black granite countertops, bead board, and dental molding were incorporated to achieve a … Read More »

Kitchen Remodel for Entertaining

Posted on January 1st, by admin in Portfolio, Transitional Kitchens. No Comments

Need:

The homeowner is a single professional who wanted to completely renovate her home to reflect her style and way of life. She wanted to add space and perform updates that would enhance the comfort and functionality for herself and her family who visit often.

Solution:

The existing dining room was sacrificed to add more space for the kitchen and bar area. The island design fully utilizes the space by including seating, sink area, dishwasher, microwave and one of the two ovens. The use of tile on the floor makes this well trafficked area easier to maintain. Features such as the hand blown glass pendant lights, gray quartz countertops, coffee colored glaze on the cabinets and backsplash pattern with accent tiles give this space a unique, warm and sophisticated feel.

This whole house remodel included the addition of a master bedroom suite … Read More »
